Errant Space Podcast 120: Ten Years

This month’s podcast marks a decade of Errant Space podcasting!

I’ve dug into the archives and found some rare or unreleased bonus tracks to celebrate.

It begins with a piece for piano and percussion by Peter Fagiola that features some guitar atmospherics by me (Craig).

Next some recordings made with David Rothenberg at his Bee Street studio (that’s what I call it. May not be its actual name.) David plays clarinets and synthesizers, I’m playing guitar.

Then we have a dub experiment with Bastian Void (modular synths). I put on my Errant Bass hat for this one.

That’s followed by a remotely recorded collabo with the incomparable Walter Wright on drums. It gets rowdy!

After that a duo recorded at Neil Alexander’s studio where he experimented with live processing grand piano, in preparation for the 100th  ES podcast performance.

And we conclude with a piece I composed for artist Kathleen Anderson’s project Tuning Score for the Nervous System.

What a decade it has been! Thank you for listening (if you have been).

Errant Space Podcast Sixty Seven: Explorations for Battle of the Ancients

This month’s podcast features sonic explorations for Battle of the Ancients, a board game from my friends at Gilded Skull Games that should be coming out next year.  (The Battle of the Ancients Kickstarter is live now, check it out!)

Here I explore the quieter, more ambient aspects of the sound of Battle of the Ancients; trying to come up with themes, textures and atmospheres that may make their way on to an eventual game soundtrack. (You can find the previous soundtrack I did for Gilded Skull HERE.)

Coincidentally, I often try to produce some sort of weird “imaginary soundtrack” for my October podcasts that listeners can use to set the mood for their halloweening, and this one suits that purpose well.

Here are some of the devices used in the creation of this podcast.

The keyboard sounds for this podcast were mostly from some old casios, which I find quite evocative. I recorded them to cassette 4-track to add some extra texture before further digital manipulation.

Errant Space Podcast #15 – Featuring Reiche

ES_FB_podcast_gimbal_670x370

Errant Space podcast #15 has something new: beats! courtesy of DJ/producer/electronic musician Reiche.

We met, and exchanged info, back in February 2016 at the Adventures in Electronic Music looping workshop I participated in at Space Create in Newburgh, NY (see ES Podcast #12). A few months later Reiche contacted me about getting together for a collaboration. Following my “the answer is always yes” policy I agreed, even though i had never seen him play ( I did see some videos).

So I didn’t really know what to expect when Reiche showed up at Rude Anagrams Studios with his Roland AIRA gear and Abelton Live set up, but I’m very pleased with the results of our first collaboration! Open up your ears and give it a listen.

Welcome to Errant Space podcast #7.

This one is taken from a performance at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, which is around the corner from my house (literally). I played there on October 10, 2015 supporting a watercolor exhibit. Playing in big, interesting spaces really suits the Errant Space sound and I’m always on the lookout for new spaces where I can perform. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Errant Space Podcast #4 : July Peformances

This month’s podcast is harvested from recordings of shows i played in July 2015.

There was an art opening, an in-store and a performance with the dance project I play with, The River Flows Two Ways.

As always, listening at low volume, preferably while horizontal, will provide the best results. Do not listen to Errant Space while operating heavy machinery.
