Errant Space Podcast One Hundred

This month brings the 100th Errant Space podcast!!

To mark the occasion, I organized a live event featuring eight past podcast participants which took place on July 1, 2023 at the Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY.

It was a three hour performance with the performers surrounding the audience, who were encouraged to listen while horizontal. The musicians played in rotating groups of three. This podcast is taken from that performance.

These are the musicians who participated in the experiment:

Al Margolis (piezo micro sounds)

Dean Sharp (processed percussives, samples)

Katie Down (glass and metal instruments, flutes)

Thom Uliasz (TV synthesizers)

Bonnie Kane (saxophone, flute, processing)

Sandy Santra (piano)

Neil Alexander (piano + processing)

Andy Rinehart (piano, accordion)

and me (Craig) (guitar, processing)

We had a fair number of audience members come through during the performance, you’ll hear people moving about on the recording. For best results, listen while laying down, it will almost be like you were there…

Errant Space Podcast #46: Three by Three

This first podcast of 2019 takes a look back at three trio performances from 2018, all three unplanned collaborative improvisations.

The first was recorded at a house concert in April and features Nail Jung (piano, electronics) and dRachEmUsiK (electronics and duck).

Next (10:26) is a performance from September at the Northeast Electro-Music Festival with the Oblique Strategists (guitarists Karl Fury and Mario-Enrique Paoli), who kindly asked me to sit in on their set.

Finally (23:34), there is a performance from December at The Thursday Experiment with Bonnie Kane (saxophone), and Karl Warner (harmonium).

Errant Space Podcast #35 – Getting out with Bonnie Kane

This month’s podcast features experimental musician Bonnie Kane.

Bonnie Kane at My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.

I first saw Bonnie perform at My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and later had the pleasure of playing at her Thursday Experiment. Bonnie is a fearless improvisor and sonic explorer. She runs her saxophone and flute through a myriad of electronics into a guitar amp producing some fantastic, far-out sounds. This podcast is pretty far from ambient, it gets quite noisy and out, but its a fun ride! And remember, anything can be ambient if you turn it down low enough.

Below is a video of Bonnie and me at My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. That performance makes up the last part of the podcast. (Video courtesy of Bonnie Kane.)
